Recurring Events

Volunteer Work Days
The CSO holds volunteer work days on the second Saturday of each month from 9:00 A.M. to noon.
Typical work days include clearing and maintaining existing horse and bike trails, building new trails, and improving the park's facilities.

We need help making sure the routes are clear and the trails are in good shape. Remember, the trails are built and maintained by volunteers like you. The work days are a small price to pay for the chance to build the best network of cross-country trails in north Florida. Volunteers meet at the San Felasco Hammock Preserve pavilion, off SR 441 just south of Alachua. Lunch for the volunteers is provided.

Bring small hand tools if you have them (loppers, pruning shears, hand saws) and also gloves, sunscreen, bug repellent, water bottle, and good humor!

To thank you for your help in maintaining our trail system, if you assist in at least eight (8) volunteer work days this year, you are ensured a rider slot in the next Tour de Felasco.

Upcoming work days:

Night Off-Road Bicycle Rides
The CSO sponsors night mountain bike rides on the Wednesday closest to the full moon. Night rides are a great way to escape the Florida heat, and they provide a chance to glimpse the park's nocturnal inhabitants as they start to emerge for their evening activities. Night rides require that you provide your own primary lights for off-road duty: the brighter, the better. You should also carry a back-up light in case of emergency. Primary lights should be capable of a minimum burn time of two hours. A small donation to the CSO is requested for each rider.

Starting time for each night ride is 7:30 P.M. Rides leave from the park headquarters (see directions under the Additional Information heading below).
Note that during the summer season (July through September), rides are provisional and may not occur. Additional information will be provided when available.

Upcoming rides:

CSO Monthly Meetings
The CSO board meeting is scheduled for the last Tuesday of each month at 7:30 P.M. These meetings are held at the park headquarters (see directions under the Additional Information heading below), and all CSO members and the general public are welcome to attend. E-mail info@sanfelasco.net if you need further info.

Memorial for Brian McAllister
Brian McAllister, who was integrally involved with the San Felasco Citizen Support Organization (CSO), the trails at San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park, and with the annual Tour de Felasco, passed away July 12, 2009. In remembrance, a memorial plaque on a stone has been placed within the park, and a brief dedication service was held on Sunday, June 6, 2010. The memorial site is at an area known as PowerBar Overlook. Powerline roads intersect at this area, and there is a picnic table. The Tung Nut bicycle trail joins the Hammock Hub trail near this area.

The following are photos of the memorial taken by Susan Tanhauser.

GCC/IMBA Take A Kid Mountain Biking Day
The October 3, 2009, Take A Kid Mountain Biking Day event was a great event for all involved. The 4 kids and 6 adults rode Cellon Creek loop, played frisbee and ball for awhile before Chandler cooked up a picnic lunch for everyone. After lunch, we rode Cottontail Trail and then everyone headed home a little past noon. The kids did great and had a good time! Many thanks to Cathy Bester for organizing the event.
