THE TOUR IS NOT A RACE. Be prepared for rolling hills, long distances, creek
crossings, and log bridges. Bail-out points will be available throughout
the Tour; participants who want a shorter tour will be able to exit after
lunch for a 30 mile ride.
Tips for Tour Riders:
We will not be mailing out any sort of pre-race packet, but if you provided us with a valid email address you will be added to the tour email list this week. The list will give you access to pre-ride information.
Expect a hard ride. In test riding the course, we found that "average to fast paced" riders required almost three hours to complete each 25 mile half. If you plan to complete the entire 50 miles, be sure to bring plenty of food and water. We will have sags throughout the Tour, but you will still be riding for long stretches with little support. Be prepared!
Because of the length of the ride, please arrive early enough to check in and be on the trails by no later than 8:30 am. The ride starts at the normal bike trail-head, off of 441. Directions are on this site's homepage. We will provide maps of the route when you check in.
Weather will be cold at the start, but warming throughout the day. Dress accordingly.
Thanks to recent rains, you will probably encounter some water on the trails. Expect to get wet at some point during the ride.
Rider Support
Two sag stops will provide cold water, sports drinks and an assortment of
snacks. A delicious hot lunch will mark the midpoint of the ride, and light
snacks will be served at the end. Porta Potties will be provided along the
route, and volunteer bike shop technicians will be around to deal with minor
problems, but you should be prepared and have your bike in good working
order before you arrive.
